MURRAY COLLINS JOHNSON Peacefully, on March 2, 2006, Murray passed away at The Sharon Home's, Kanee Centre with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Edith (nee Madill), his parents Hulda and Frederick Johnson, and his brothers Melton and Donovan. Left to cherish his memory are children, Barbara (George), Wray (Sandy), Eileen (Tanis), and Deanna, his grandchildren, Sara (Adrian), John, Ginnie and Robyn. He is survived by brothers, Erwin (Helen) of Edmonton, James (Ruth) of Regina and sister Marjorie (Wilf) of Dilke, SK. Murray was born March 24, 1919 in Tribune SK. The family moved to Bromhead, SK in 1932. Murray served his country for four years during the Second World War in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the 8th Recce. Bo. (14th E) A.F. Murray was a Lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Prince Edward Branch 81. Following the war Murray graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.S.A. (Agriculture) in 1951. On July 7th, 1951 he married Edith. The happy couple made their home in Teulon and Inkster, ND before settling in Winnipeg. Murray worked for the provincial government in the Assessment Branch for 23 years before retiring in 1976. An active and giving member of the community Murray helped to build Grace Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. He gave generously to many causes, coached hockey and was a member of the Rossmere Curling Club. A member of the Dunrobin Gang , Murray took great pleasure having many discussions with his neighbourhood pals. Murray liked fishing and family vacations at Luther Village. He enjoyed family get-togethers and had a great time attending The Johnson Family Reunion in Brandon, July 2004 at Tally Ho Stables. This past October he proudly celebrated the wedding of his oldest granddaughter Sara. Murray will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and playful practical jokes. Always welcoming, he and Edith opened their home to everyone. Crossword puzzles and cryptograms kept Murray sharp and he had great fun getting everyone to help out. Murray held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Grampa was always in his chair waiting for them to come and cuddle but more often than not he spent most of his time catching them while they used him like monkey bars . He loved to hear all about their exploits and achievements, proudly sharing these stories with anyone who would listen. The Family would like to express their sincere thanks to the compassionate staff at The Sharon Home.
