DAVID GEORGE ROSS Peacefully surrounded by his family, Dave passed away on March 2, 2006 at the age of 67. Dave will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Lynn Marie Thomson; daughter Sherri Nardi; grandsons, Damen, Dean and Stefan and sister Shirley Dawson. Dave is also survived by cousin Dick Todd; brother and sisters-in-law, Wes, Jane (Claude), Deborah (Paul), Ruth (Dan) and Roberta (Ross); several nieces and nephews; former wife Barbara Ross and stepson David. Dave was predeceased by his parents, James and Alice Ross. Dave worked at the Manitoba Youth Centre for 24 years beginning in 1976 with the New Careers Program. He contributed to the well being and rehabilitation of young offenders in many ways, some of them unique to the person he was. Dave provided counseling, programs, humour, encouragement, support and follow-up to youth in conflict with the law. His unique contributions included the creative teachings of painting and string art. Seeing the needs and struggles faced by the youth, he worked, developed and delivered an addictions program geared specifically towards them. He built in links to the community so that the youth could have continued support after they left the Centre. Fellow staff fondly recall Dave supervising residents and sharing his love of backgammon and crib during breaks and free time. Dave's life changed direction 14 years ago as he began a journey of recovery. His experience, strength, hope and wisdom will continue to be felt. Dave learned his own life lessons and gave back to others, making a positive difference to so many. One of Dave's favorite sayings was, The most powerful mind altering thing out there is the truth. Stay Strong, Stay Connected, Keep the Faith. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Sunday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Centre For Conscious Living, 612 Valour Rd. with Rev. Ian B. Fraser officiating. In memory of Dave, donations may be made to Resource Assistance for Youth RAY , 195 Young St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3S8. Dave, you have made a difference. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler @ Henderson Hwy 668-3151
