Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHOWARD A. MCKINNON Peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 2, 2006, passed away at the age of 91 years. Howard was predeceased by his wife Janet McKinnon; brothers, Frank (Martha) and Everett (Anne) McKinnon; and sister Shirley Bracken (Bruce). He will be sadly missed by his son Neil; daughter Pamela (Glen) and their children Christopher and Shelagh; and daughter Shirlee (Keith); nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends. Howard was born September 26, 1914 in Winnipeg and married Janet Forsyth in 1941. They celebrated 58 happy years together. Howard was a veteran of the Second World War from 1941 through 1945, serving in the Canadian Dental Corps throughout North Africa and Europe. Upon return he and Janet lived in St. Vital prior to moving to their home in Fort Garry where they raised their family. Ruttan Bay was home for 54 years and was the beginning of many life-long friendships. Howard and his brother Everett took over the family business after the death of their father Reginald McKinnon in 1954. Howard stayed with the Manitoba Dental Laboratories until his retirement 1979. During those active years he also was a member of the Fort Garry Lions Club, started the Fort Garry Speed Skating Club, and was a member of the Winnipeg Magician's Society. In later years he volunteered his time for the Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Salvation Army. Howard's happiest times were the vacations and weekends spent at the family cottage in his beloved Gimli, MB. This was a place of friendships and cherished memories, a place of peace and togetherness that he truly loved and looked forward to each year when cottage season began. The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their generosity and caring support. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 9, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Special Olympics Manitoba.
