Date of Passing: Mar 01, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILLER (JIGGS) STEWART 1918 2006 Miller, better know as Jiggs passed away peacefully March 1, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox, BC. He and his wife, Marjorie (nee Moore) recently moved from Winnipeg to live with their daughter, Gloria and her husband Victor (Torrey) Lee. Thanks to the great care provided by Gloria and Torrey, he had a wonderful final year of his life. The British Columbia climate was ideal for him and Marge to enjoy their daily walks. Jiggs was born in Roland, MB. He enlisted in the army in 1940. After being discharged he returned to Roland and met his future wife, Marjorie. They started their married life on the farm near Roland and then bought a butcher shop in the town. They moved to Winnipeg in 1944 and eventually bought another shop on Scott St. in Fort Rouge. In 1956, they purchased a grocery/butcher shop on Ashburn St. in Winnipeg which they operated for 24 years. The family spent many summers camping and eventually Dad built a cottage at Gull Lake. He loved the cottage immensely and spent many hours cultivating a huge garden. Upon retiring, he converted the shop into a duplex and continued to live there until 2004. During retirement they traveled from one coast of Canada to the other plus many areas in the United States, visiting their six daughters and other relatives. Dad was always welcome in his daughters' homes, especially because he arrived with all his tools to be their personal handyman. Jiggs is survived by his wife Marjorie; as well as his daughters and sons-in law, Gloria and Torrey Lee, Sherril and Brian Johnson, Judy and Ian Sutherland, Susan and Walter Giesbrecht, Debby and Darcy Wersh, Gina Neufeld. Gina's husband, Ross Neufeld passed away in 2004. The sole survivor now of his seven siblings is Bob Stewart of Surrey, BC. Dad who was a very kind, gracious soul with a great humorous wit will be missed by all his children, 16 grandchildren and 12 great-children and especially by Mom with whom he recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. A memorial service will be held in Courteney, BC. at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Thursday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
