She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Maurice Godin and her three children from her first marriage, Joyce Lucy (Henry) of Winnipeg, MB, Judith Gusdal (Danny) of Wetaskiwin, AB and Ellwood Johnson (Marlene) of Peterborough, ON. She also leaves behind one sister, Elsa Wilson of Nelson, BC. Astrid felt blessed to experience the love of six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a devoted daughter and sister, mother, wife and Mormor / Farmor (Swedish for Grandma)! In later years she thrilled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her lively stories, baking and endless energy for games and play-time. When she became the family's bread-winner, she began a long career working with children in Birtle Indian Residential School and later at Cecelia Jaffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, ON. Her loving commitment to the well-being of the children and her positive modeling for her staffs, led to lifelong friendships. Until her death, she received visits and communications from students who considered her a surrogate mother. During her retirement years she was dedicated to addressing the needs of those less fortunate, lonely and ill. She was a community care worker with the Salvation Army and a visitation volunteer with the Erickson Legion. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Park Manor for their care of Astrid in the final difficult months of her life. A favourite scripture was Psalms 32:8, I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way that thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. A celebration of Astrid' s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at Wheeler's Funeral Chapel at 701 Regent Ave. W., Transcona.
