HAROLD OLIVER HEATHERINGTON February 23, 1920 March 4, 2006 Peacefully, Harold passed away at the age of 86 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Annie and John; sister Barbara; brothers, Ernie and Maurice; and his son Gerald. Harold is survived by the love of his life Ann (Kaiser) whom he married on July 5, 1947; daughters, Cheryl (Chuck) Edwards, Linda (Emile) Bisson and Marianne Heatherington (Ron Withawick); his grandchildren, Ian, Marina, Christina, Lance, Cory, Kassandra, Ronald; and his great-grandson Darien. Harold was born in Transcona where he lived his entire life going to central school, taking care of his parents, raising his family with Ann and working at the CNR for 38 years until he retired at age 60. He was injured in his early teens which left him with a disability for life, but being Harold, that did not stop him from going forward and succeeding at any task given to him. Harold and Ann travelled all through Canada and the USA spending winters in Florida, Arizona and ten in Texas. He liked to keep his grass and yard in tip top shape, and even helped his neighbours with their's. The past two years were spent looking out his window at what he called his own personal t.v., waving to all who passed by. We would like to thank all the people who took the time to wave back. You made his day! In his earlier years, you could find Harold entertaining anyone who wanted to hear him play his harmonica, especially his grand-children. Even though money was tight back then, he always found enough to have a family vacation each year and this tradition was carried on with his grandchildren. Harold was an avid hunter when younger and always brought home dinner to Ann. Even though he was a hunter he was also an animal lover, and made sure his children always had a pet to love. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9, at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Transcona Cemetery. Special thanks are extended to all the neighbours that have helped over the years especially Lyle, Derrick, Daryl and Dave. We would also like to thank the home care staff in particular Armondo for his care of Harold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Hemophilia Society (Manitoba Chapter) or the charity of one's choice.
