PHYLLIS HARRIET GRANT (nee KAUFMAN) January 3, 1918 - March 7, 2006 Peacefully on March 7, 2006, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 88, at the Riverview Health Centre. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents George and Margaret Kaufman, and her brothers, Norman (Eleanor), Elmer (Gwen) and Larry (Mary). Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Alan; son Robert; daughter Carolyn Swann (Gordon); and beloved grandchildren, Daniel Rugg (Tracy) and Kimberly Howard (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Makaela and Brooke Rugg and Nathan and Rylan Howard. Phyllis was born and brought up in Brandon MB. She served with the Canadian Women's Army Corp as a Sergeant stationed in Shilo during the Second World War. After the war ended, she moved to Winnipeg to begin a new job and there she met Alan and after a brief courtship they married in 1948. She and Alan started a family and lived in the St. James area for their entire married life making many life-long friends. Their house was full of Bridge Clubs, barbecues, and parties. She was a member of the Eastern Star for years until she felt regrettably that she could not fulfill her duties properly. She also worked for the St. James School Division in the Resource branch for many years until her retirement. Then, she and Alan spent many happy summers at their cottage in Sandy Hook, playing golf, entertaining friends and relatives, and enjoying the wildlife visitors to their retirement nook. She spent many a morning feeding her chipmunks and bird friends. Phyllis was a woman who was always prepared for life's obstacles whatever they may be. She was strong and proud especially of her family and instilled in them many of her values. She was a devoted and loving wife yet independently minded in every thing that she did. She could not have loved Alan more. Phyllis had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She spent many hours teaching Kimmy to cook and bake and was thrilled that her Scotch oatcakes and biscuit recipes will be carried on. She took great pride in each of Danny's accomplishments and how he has grown to become a devoted husband and father. We would like to thank the staff of the Grace Hospital 3rd floor and the Riverview Health Center 3rd floor East for their care and compassion during this time. A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis' life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis' honour to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R3E OV9 CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
