LILIANE (LIL) HEBERT (nee THUOT) One week before her 89th birthday, Liliane (Lil) Hébert, nee Thuot, passed away at Riverview Health Centre. Liliane was born March 14, 1917 at Kincaid, SK. She was educated at the Gravelbourg Convent and went on to teachers' college in Moose Jaw. She taught in Saskatchewan and told many stories of her wonderful experiences in one room schoolhouses in small town Saskatchewan. After a few years' teaching, Mom married Maurice (Butch) Hébert and moved to St. Boniface, MB where she raised her children and became very involved in the St. Boniface community. Mom was predeceased by her husband Butch in August 1978. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by each of her children for whom she showed unconditional love and with whom she had individual and unique relationships - Gilles (Nancy), René (Jean), Pierrette (Jean Jacques), John (Rosyln), Dolores, Denis (Della) and Ken (Gloria) as well as her grandchildren and honorary pallbearers, Shanelle, Lawrence, Cary, Kim, Jillian, Kyle, Danielle, Christa, Marc, Maxim, Glen, Jim and Warren. She is survived also by her sister Edna Perron and brothers Paul (Ruth) and Raymond (Lori) Thuot. Liliane devoted several years to raising her children prior to returning to her passion of teaching and remained active in the St. Boniface community throughout her lifetime. She served as President of Les Filles d'Isabel, worked with la Fédération des Ainés, received a Governor General's award for community animation and served in many capacities with l'Accueil Colombien, the place she called home for 21 years and where she made many close friendships. She reluctantly gave up residence at l'Accueil due to her illness in December 2005 but l'Accueil and its residents were always very close to her heart. Liliane was a woman ahead of her times. She will be remembered for her cynically humourous approach to life and her uncanny ability to connect with everyone she met. Whoever met Liliane, and spent any time in her presence, would not forget this woman who, right up to the time of her death, was up-to-date on news. She loved discussion and always argued on behalf of the underdog, be it in politics, sports or current events. Mom made friends easily and was able to find the thread that would connect her with anyone she met. People sought her company and because of her sense of humour and pragmatic approach to life, they would share a little drink and leave with a smile on their face and their problems in a new perspective. Mom was very intelligent, witty and never satisfied with the status quo. Her abilities were limitless and under different circumstances, Liliane could have been whatever she chose particularly in the fields of art, writing and politics. Thanks to the excellent staff at Riverview Health Centre who went beyond the call of duty for Mom and particular thanks to Betty and Guada. Thanks too to Dolores who provided care and solace to Mom in the weeks after she left l'Accueil and was not yet ready for hospital care. The funeral services will be held at Saint Boniface Cathédrale, rue de la Cathédrale, Saint Boniface, MB at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006. Rest in well-deserved peace Mom It's good enough . LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220
