FONTAINE Peacefully and with dignity with his wife by his side, after a lengthy illness, Roland passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital on Tuesday, March 7, 2006. He was born in Storthoaks, SK on December 11, 1930. Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Johanne (Jubinville), his son Jean, daughter-in-law Donna and grandsons, Nathan and Matthew from Edmonton, AB, and by his daughter Jacqueline and son-in-law Robert McLellan from Aubigny, MB. He leaves to mourn his passing his brother Hervé (Anne) Winnipeg, MB; sister Sylvia (Mike) Peter of Regina, SK; brother Gilles of Storthoaks, SK; his sister-in-law, Marie-Paule Jubinville of Erikson, MB, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Hector in 1958 and his mother Yvonne in 1991. Roland was always involved in the community and church activities. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Goulet Council for several years and recently transferred to the Norwood Council. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Assemblée Mgr. Taché. Since Roland had a keen interest in helping young people, he devoted many years to coaching, baseball, hockey and bowling and for a short time he also coached the men's Knights of Columbus Goulet Council hockey team. Roland was a member of the La Verendrye Club as a Native Son, and a league bowler. His hobbies were golfing and fishing, but his real passion was woodcarving. He belonged to Les Gens de Bois woodcarving club and enjoyed giving some of his art work to relatives and friends. Roland was a very generous man, who gave of himself for his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He will be in our hearts forever and not only because of the gifts we've received, but because his loving presence amongst us will be missed. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, March 11 at the St. Boniface Cathedral, at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the lower level of the church.
