ANNE MARTHA HENDERSON BARRY It is with great sadness that the family of Anne Barry announces her passing. With family at her side, she found her peace at the Maples Personal Care Home in Winnipeg on March 5, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer and complications due to diabetes. Anna Martha was born March 21, 1921 to Ferdinand and Wanda Schmidt in Sutherland, SK. She moved with her family to a farm outside Whitemouth, MB during the depression. At a young age, Anne worked outside the home as a nanny and housekeeper. The family later moved to Ontario, while Anne remained in Whitemouth to fulfill her obligations to her employers. She loved attending the community dances, where she met the love of her life, George (Toady) Henderson. They were married September 11, 1940 and lived on the Henderson family farm, where they had six children. Anne was widowed in 1965 and moved her family to town. She became employed at the Whitemouth District Hospital as a cleaner, then as a nurse's aid, and finally as the chief cook and dietician, a position she truly loved and took great pride in. She retired in 1979 and moved to Dawson Creek, BC where she worked in oil camps in British Columbia and Alberta. She enjoyed the adventurous lifestyle, travelling by small aircraft to remote areas and spending time on son Ted's ranch in her free time. She returned to Whitemouth in 1983 and married Arnold Barry. They enjoyed many years fishing, camping and travelling across Canada to visit family. She was once again widowed in 1996 but remained in her home until June 2004, when she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. Anne will be sadly missed by her daughter Susan and husband Ron Tracy of Winnipeg, daughter Patricia and husband Jim Goertzen of Sooke, BC and son Ted Henderson and wife Joyce of Dawson Creek, BC; grandchildren, Tamara Heilman (Frank), Dean Henderson (Carrie), Karena Henderson, Chris Tracy (Tasia), Mark Tracy (Natasha) all of Winnipeg, Tom Goertzen (Leanne) of Pouce Coupe, BC, Meagan Ayres (Marty) of Sooke, BC, Heather and Deanna Henderson of Dawson Creek, BC; great-grandchildren Jonathon Heilman, Cameron and Kinnon Henderson and Brendan Tracy, all of Winnipeg, Tessa and Casey Goertzen of Pouce Coupe, BC, and Delaney and Davyn Ayres of Sooke, BC; step-children Chris Barry (Joanne) and children Meghan and Jonathan of Kincardine, ON, Cindy Barry and daughters Loeyn and Breany Young of Shoreline, WA. Anne is also survived by three loving sisters, Helen Wesenberg and Lorraine Dale (Ron) of Seaforth, ON and Mary Koebel of Kitchener, ON, as well as many nieces, nephews and others who were dear to her. Anne was predeceased by beloved husband George Henderson; second husband Arnold Barry; parents Ferdinand and Wanda Schmidt; cherished children Carol, Tommy and most recently Monty Henderson; brothers, Adolph and Walter Schmidt; sisters, Esther France, Adeline Voisin, Freida Wudrick, Edna Shannon and Alma Hugill. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their loving kindness towards Mom and the family during her short time there. Cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance will take place on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitemouth Ross United Church with Rev. Ann Cook officiating. Interment of both Anne and her recently deceased son, Monty Henderson, will take place prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Whitemouth Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg or Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg. Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, MB (204-268-3510) is in charge of arrangements.
