MARGARET MCKAY (nee ANDREWS) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret McKay, on Tuesday March 7, 2006 at the young age of 81 years, with family at her side. Left to cherish her precious memory are her husband Stewart; children, Jan Coolidge and her husband Doug, (Natalie and Mitch), Rick and his wife Anita, (Shane and Chase), Carl and his wife Val, (Eric and Lindsey), Marj Laidlaw-Cadorath and her husband Gary, (Colin and Alli/Matt); sister Muriel (Stewart); brothers, Lloyd (Dorothy), Don (Noreen), Lyle (Joyce); sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Ruth, Marj, and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Earl, John, Arnie and sister Marj. Margaret was born in Miami, Manitoba on May 26, 1924 the fifth of nine children. After completing high school in Miami, she moved to Winnipeg and attended business college. Shortly after graduating, she met and married Stewart and they shared 57 years together. Mom's passion was her family..her pride and joy, and she managed to juggle raising four children while beginning a successful career in the banking and trust industry. She retired as a Trust Officer in 1989 from Montreal Trust. Mom spent countless hours volunteering at the Community Club, the Church and any cause she felt worth while. She dedicated many years of volunteer service to the Liberal party and was recognized in 2003 as the first recipient of the Senator Gildas L Molgat Recognition Award. In retirement, Mom spent many enjoyable hours on the golf course. When she wasn't golfing, she could be found volunteering at St. Andrews River Heights United Church or delivering Meals on Wheels. Mom had a passion for traveling, including garden tours in England and sheep ranches in New Zealand. In addition she had the memorable experience of being a political observer in Bosnia's first free election in 1996. A service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held at St. Andrew's River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street, on Friday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to The Heart Stroke Foundation, or a charity of their choice. Thomson Funeral Home 669 Broadway 783-7211

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • It is with both grief and gratitude that I encounter this notice while researching the family roots. Grief that just over a decade ago I might have had a chance to hear a story from a relative, and yet Gratitude in knowing that there are some distant cousins within the same city I reside. Should her children read this, please know I am on the first family tree page within the Andrew's history book, daughter of Lyall, son of Garnet. I am researching and looking to help update as we near the 150th anniversary of our ancestors arrival. Thank You. My sincere condolences, as well. - Posted by: Kristen Andrews (Distant cousin ) on: Oct 06, 2017
