LEON RYDZKOWSKI November 27, 1919 March 7, 2006 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing, peacefully and with dignity, of our much-loved Leon, husband, stepfather, dear friend, neighbour and beloved uncle. Leon was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (nee Lesniak) in 1990. Leon remarried March 27, 1993 to Kazimiera Lisowska and they shared 13 wonderful years together. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory wife, Kazia; stepchildren, Leokadia Lisowska, Henryk (Christina) Lisowski, Ted (Irene) Lisowski, fondest nephew George (Kathy) Rydzkowski; niece Jannina Saciuk (Stefan) and many nieces and nephews in Poland. Leon was born in Stare Sumienie Pomorze, Poland. He was imprisoned in a Soviet labour camp, the horrid memories and the nightmares of his past never left him, even until the last few days of his life. He served as a Sgt. in the Polish Corps of the British 8th Army in a number of venues including Monte Casino, where he sustained a wound in 1944. Leon immigrated to Canada in 1950 and settled in Winnipeg. He worked for the CNR for 31 years until his retirement in 1982 in the Purchases and Materials Management Stores Dept. Throughout his life, Leon loved spending time traveling in the country, camping, picking blueberries and mushrooms but most of all fishing. In his spare time, Leon loved reading and watching T.V. and he will be sadly missed at Northgate Shopping Centre where he went for coffee to meet friends. Leon was a generous person, many owe him a great deal. He was by circumstances self taught, capable, productive and a good provider for his family and friends. He had a quiet and gentle soul and was well liked by all who crossed his path. His caring, loving, thoughtful nature will be greatly missed. To celebrate Leon's life, prayers will be said on Friday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius' Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Avenue with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak as celebrant. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leon's memory to charity of one's choice. Rest in Peace Papa, we will always love you. Wieczny Odpoczynek Racz Mu Dac, Panie CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
