Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL ZELINSKI Our family sadly announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on March 7, 2005 at the age of 87. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Anne Zelinski; brothers, John, Joseph, William, Anton and Steve; and sister Kay Borkowsky. He is survived by Lillie, his wife of 58 years; daughter Twyla Forbes; grandchildren Tracy (and husband Kevin), Michael (and wife Darla) and great-grandchildren, Madeline and Emma Kate. He is survived by sisters, Angeline Johnson and Mary King, both of Santa Anna, California. Mike was born May 26, 1914 in Cody, SK. He farmed in and around Kamsack, SK until 1953. Mike worked as a carpenter until 1955 when he left to work for the Canadian National Railway. Mike worked in the Bridges and Builders Department of the railway, building and repairing stations and bridges across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Although Mike retired from C.N. at 64, he continued to work for friend Pete Cherkach on the Cherkach family farm. Mike met Lillie in 1946 and they were married in August, 1947. They lived on a farm in Cody until 1953 when they moved to Kamsack, their home for the last 53 years. Friends and family remember Mike as a quiet, friendly and gentle man who was caring and always willing to help and lend a hand. Mike was an avid hunter and trapper and continued to enjoy the sport into his retirement. He also enjoyed visiting the lake and could often be caught playing cards with neighbours and family late into the night. Although retired, Mike loved working in his garden. He also continued to work on home improvement and carpentry projects. Mike was closely involved in the lives of Twyla, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and joy. The Zelinski and Forbes families would like to thank all the staff at the Fourth Floor South East Ward, St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg and the Home Care staff in Kamsack for all their care and support. A prayer service will be held at the Andrychuk Funeral Home in Kamsack on Monday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Greek Catholic Church, Kamsack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
