MAVIS RUTH SMITH (nee McMILLAN) 1920 - 2006 Peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2006, Mavis passed away at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish in Mavis' memory are her husband Robert Smith, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage; sons, Bryan (Marlene), Lance (Diane) and David (Darlene); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and only brother, Earl. Mavis was born in Endcliffe, MB. Her family moved to Clanwilliam, MB, where she grew up and met Robert, a handsome young school teacher. In their early married years, mom played piano at many social dances in the area of Minnedosa and Neepawa. In the early 1940s they moved to Winnipeg and settled in St. Vital where they had their three sons. In 1958 they moved to Niakawa Park, where they lived and made many friends, until November 2005. According to her wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Many thanks to the staff at Parkview Place Care Home and the staff on the 5th floor at Victoria General Hospital for the care given to Mavis till the end. A special thanks to Flo Poirier, our parents wonderful neighbour who kept a watchful eye out for them during their hardest times. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mavis' memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
