HELENE SAXLER It is with deep sorrow and sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of our Mother, Oma and Gross Oma, Helene on Wednesday, March 9, 2006 at the Pinawa Hospital. Helene was born August 24, 1922 in Bernstadt, Germany. She was predeceased by her husband Matthias in 1995, also by her brother George, sister Lydia and grandchildren Mark, Andrew and Rebecca. She is survived and lovingly missed by her children, grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Roy; Werner (Olga), Andrea (Clayton), Adam; Hermann (Wendy), Christopher (Nancy), Lorelei (Heath); Elisabeth (Brian Zawada), Beverly, Amanda; Martin (Kim), Tyler and Mackenzie; sisters Elsa, Martha and Matilda. Married on June 26, 1943 in Bernstadt, Germany, they immigrated with their four children to Canada on June 26, 1960. They were blessed with another son, Martin, in 1962. They settled outside River Hills, MB and operated a dairy farm until retirement. Amazingly while raising five children during these busy times farming, Oma enjoyed simple pleasures of knitting, gardening and playing board games with her family. The Sunday afternoon drives through the Whiteshell and surrounding area were her weekly highlights. Lasting memories of vibrant, endearing and spirited Oma will be cherished by her family and many friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Ed Spence and staff at the Pinawa Hospital for the excellent care provided. Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in River Hills, MB with Pastor George Johnson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Whitemouth Columbarium following the service. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in Helene's memory may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to a charity of one's choice.
