DONALD KEITH (The Borscht King) November 9, 1953 to March 12, 2006 After a six month battle with cancer, we are sad to say good-bye to a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Don was born in Winnipeg in 1953 and spent his entire life in Winnipeg's north end. He touched the lives of many people, first working alongside his dad in the family owned insurance agency, and then as managing partner of Alycia's restaurant where he became known to literally thousands of his restaurant and Folklorama customers as the borscht king . Professionally trained as an Executive Chef, Don had the honour of preparing a meal for the Royal Family, and has cooked for many Hollywood and Canadian celebrities and dignitaries. His outgoing personality and sense of humour were the reasons for his success, and are the qualities we'll remember most about him as we think back on his life achievements. Don was predeceased by his father Ronald Keith. He leaves to mourn his wife Pat, children Kyra, Tyler and Megan, and his six grandchildren. He also leaves his mother Flo Swaity, sisters, brothers, their families and many close friends, all of whom helped to make Don's last days very special. Special thanks to Don's primary palliative nurses, Sharon and Doris, staff in the palliative care unit at St. Boniface Hospital, and to Dr. Loiselle who helped Don find the pain relief in his last few days that had eluded him for too long before that. A celebration of Don's life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow at Alycia's Restaurant, 559 Cathedral Ave.
