FRANCES GRELA January 19, 1920 - March 15, 2006 Peacefully, with family at her side, Frances passed away at the Grace Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. Frances will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Don (Marguerite) Grela; and daughter Marilyn (Barry Hill); her grandsons, David (Monica) and Jeff Grela; her granddaughters, Lauren and Susan Hill. She is also survived by her sisters, Del Elin and Mary Woyton; brother Ed (Janet) Ilnicki; sister-in-law Mary Grela and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1975, her parents and her sister Helen Ritchie. Frances lived most of her life in Winnipeg. After her marriage to Mike in 1945, she devoted her time to caring for home and family. Later Frances worked for 15 years as an educational assistant with special needs students at Robertson School. Her love for children, along with her patience and compassion, made her well-suited to this challenge. Frances was a faithful, lifetime member of St. John Cantius Parish and the Catholic Women's League. She participated in liturgical ministries and volunteer activities, and in her retirement years, attended daily Mass as long as her health permitted. Frances enjoyed chatting with neighbours and working in her yard. She had a green thumb for the many flowers and plants she tended. She cared for the backyard birds in both summer and winter. Frances enjoyed many weekends at the cottage with her family. She looked forward to family gatherings where she could contribute her cooking and baking specialties. Frances cherished her many friends and kept in close touch with them by phone calls, cards and letters. The family wishes to thank all who supported Frances with their love and prayers, especially throughout her illness. We also extend our thanks to the health care workers at the Rehab, Riverview Centre and the Grace Hospice for their care and compassion. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. with Rev. Fr. H. Uczniak as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of one's choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
