IVA SARA STODGELL (nee HEBERT) June 22, 1917 - March 14, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Iva Stodgell on March 14, 2006 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her husband Roy; sisters, Odile Thomas and Clara Cote; brothers, Ray, Pete, Oliver, Louis and Archie Hebert (in infancy) and son-in-law Ernie Zitaruk. She is survived by her son Ron (Pat) and daughters, Rhea Zitaruk and Iris (Guy) Jodoin; grandchildren, Russ (Kim) Zitaruk, Lana Zitaruk, Chris (Cara) Stodgell, Renee (Barry) Bourlai, Cary (Lise) Flett and Ryan Flett; and great-grandchildren Rachel, Brendan, Dylan, Jesse, Nicolas and Jayden. Born in Shaunavon, SK, Iva moved with her family to Manitoba. She spent her childhood around Lake Francis and Fisher Branch. She was a proud veteran, serving with the WRENS during the Second World War. After the war, she got married and devoted herself to raising her family in Winnipeg. She spent her retirement years at Oak Park Lodge in Woodlands, before moving to Oakview Personal Care Home in late 2005. Iva was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Hodgson Branch) and for many years, visited patients at the Deer Lodge Hospital as a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Ladies Auxiliary. Iva was very sociable, and had an endless supply of stories to share with her friends and family over games of bingo, cards and scrabble. She took great pride in keeping her house just so - even ironing socks and tea towels - leaving her grandchildren with many fond memories of weekend chores , lightened by cookies and chocolate bars. Iva was also passionate about gardening. She kept up her flower beds and constantly replenished the bird feeders for her birds , right up until she moved to Oakview. A loving and caring person, Iva will be greatly missed by her friends and family. The family wishes to express their thanks to all the staff at Oakview Personal Care Home for the excellent care that she received. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at Fisher Funeral Home in Fisher Branch, MB.
