Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT ZERBIN October 31, 1902 - March 14, 2006 On Tuesday, March 14, 2006, Albert passed away peacefully at the Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone, MB at the young age of 103 years. Left to cherish his precious memory are his loving wife Ellen, of 66 years; two sons, Kerry (Karina), Doug (Marie); grandchildren, Duane (Yolanda) and Brian; great-grandchildren Jesse, Cole, Samantha and Steven; one sister-in-law Ruby Dahlin; and many nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Gus; five sisters, Pauline, Mary, Emma, Hilda and Tina. Albert was born at Golden Stream and farmed in the Mayfeld District until moving to Gladstone in 1947, where he continued to farm until 1975. Albert was fond of sports, and became a skilled baseball and hockey player in his younger years. Dad taught himself to play the violin at an early age so he could join in with his brothers and sisters, who were all musicians. It wasn't long before Dad became one of Manitoba's respected old-time fiddling champions. On October 5, 1939 Albert married Ellen Finegan, who just happened to play the piano, and the traditional Zerbin Orchestra carried on, being in demand wherever music was to play an important part - weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, church functions and dances. Dad and Mom also contributed many hours of volunteered entertainment for various functions in Gladstone, including Third Crossing Manor and the Seniors' Drop-In, as well as in other areas of Manitoba. Dad continued to entertain with his music until his 100th birthday. Albert was a faithful member of the Gladstone United Church, where a service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Gladstone Cemetery will be followed by a reception in the church annex. The family extends their thanks to the doctors and nurses and all the staff at the Third Crossing Manor for their excellent care and kindness shown to Albert and family.
