LELAH E. LEWARTON Peacefully on March 14, 2006 at Riverview Health Centre at age 89. Predeceased by her husband Bob in 1989, and sisters, Mabel in 1968 and Iola in 1985. She leaves behind her son Larry and his family; other relatives and many, many friends. Lelah was born in 1916 in Foxwarren, MB and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. After she and Bob married and moved to Winnipeg in 1940, she nursed at Winnipeg General Hospital for 27 years until 1967 when she went to the newly opened Manitoba Cancer Foundation (now CancerCare Manitoba) where she helped many young children and adults. She retired in 1981 after 41 years in the nursing profession. Her life was full of laughter, travel and adventure. Both she and Bob were avid curlers and golfers and were members of Bel Acres Golf CC and CFB Curling Club for many years. For many years she and Bob spent their winters in El Cajon, CA. This is where they enjoyed their daily happy hour with friends. Lelah loved to entertain. She especially loved to visit her nieces and nephews here in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff who cared for Lelah in her last months. Special thanks to Marie Enns and Jean Lloyd who spent many hours with her. Lelah will be remembered for her love of life and her never ending stream of jokes. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., Winnipeg. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 and CancerCare Manitoba, Room 1160, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Lelah was my aunt and according to my sister Rochelle, I was always one of her favourites. I remember her keen spirit and sense of humour very well. Although we have lived far apart for many years, I was able to have a good visit with Lelah in the summer of 2005, and for that I am very greatfull. Lelah's nephew, Wally Adam - Posted by: Wallace Adam (Family) on: Mar 19, 2006

  • What a wonderfully funloving person Lelah was......She & Bob were great golfing & travelling friends of my mom & dad, Marian & Walt Greenway. In 1990 Lelah came to Victoria with my mom and stayed at my place a few days, bringing to me lots of laughter. Lelah, I hope I can go on in my life with at least half the good spirit you had, and that would be your gift to me................Maureen - Posted by: Maureen Greenway (Friend) on: Mar 18, 2006
