YVONNE TUTLIES The last words she heard were I love you Mum . The day previous, the last words she whispered were I have a wonderful family . On Thursday, March 16, 2006 about 3 weeks short of her 74th birthday, Yvonne Tutlies left her loved ones on earth. She will join her husband Karli in a world we imagine to be free of pain and care and certainly filled with good German music, food, friends, flowers, birds and perhaps a bowling alley. Karl went ahead 11 years ago. He always went ahead. After he and Yvonne were married in 1952 they left their war torn home in Berlin for the promise of a good life in Canada. He arrived in Winnipeg in 56 and she followed in 57 with the boys, Joachim and Heinz. The little family spent the first couple of years in Selkirk, MB before moving back to Winnipeg where Karl expanded his talents and reputation as a TV technician and Yvonne acquired accreditation in Social Work. Karl soon started his own business, and Yvonne began work with Child and Family Services for the City of Winnipeg. She remained in that vocation until her retirement in 1992. Yvonne and Karl spent many wonderful weekends and holidays at Camp Neustadt near Gimli before buying a little peace of nature near the community of Meleb. There they indulged in their love of camping, cooking, gardening and bird watching. By the time they could enjoy these personal pleasures they were well entertained by the antics and tomfoolery of their two grown sons and, thanks to Joachim, were joined by their grandchildren - Jason and Rita. The little family enjoyed many weekends of pleasure on the rural property they called The Land , Work, an active social life and more work kept them mostly in the city. They took every opportunity they could to explore Canada, the Northern States and a couple of trips to their family in Germany. While in Winnipeg they resided first in St. Vital until they bought their home in North Kildonan. Yvonne and Karl were avid bowlers, music lovers and gadget collectors. If it offered convenience or expedience or maybe just pleasure, they probably bought it or at least tried it. Both were avid readers and book lovers and they were genuinely interested in technology and in human nature. Trivia, helpful hints, herbal remedies and medical miracles were something of a passion for Yvonne. To the very end, she understood the terminology, and was not baffled by the complexity of medical science or particularly afraid of the consequence. She had not been well for sometime however her sudden passing was a surprise to everyone though perhaps not to herself. She accepted her fate with some stubbornness, which was true to her character, then she left, unafraid and surrounded by her beloved brother and the same little family that had joined her on her happy holidays at the land. Her loved ones will be eternally grateful for the compassionate care given to us and to her in the Palliative Care unit of St. Boniface hospital during the last 24 hours of her life. We wish to acknowledge this incredible unit and also Christine of the ICU who gently guided us while monitors hummed and signaled Mum's final journey. Appreciation also belongs to her patient and dedicated homecare workers, Deanna, Lucy and Elsa who came daily to Yvonne's aid while she lived the past two months at her son's cottage on the lake at Balsam Bay. We are truly grateful for all for the care, compassion and Christian kindness. Yvonne leaves behind her excellent brother, Dagobert Cybula and his Inge of Colburg, Germany. To hold dear and remember all the unique and colorful memories she created, are her son Joachim and his Laura of Balsam Bay with their prodigy Rita and Clark Bodoano of Belair, MB; Jason and Leah Tutlies of Winnipeg, MB; James Kitchen of Alberta, and Ruth and Rocky Barbeli of Tulsa, OK; she leaves her much loved son Heinz Tutlies of Winnipeg and her great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Patrick and Braeden Bodoano and Malory Barbeli. As a sister, a mother and an Oma she will continue to influence us with her legacy of philosophies and example plus the incredible stamp of her genetics. Auf Wiedersehen und Gott segnen Sie Yvonne. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, with Rev. Gerhard Friesen officiating. Should friends desire, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg R3C 0S6.
