Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN L. MORRISON March 21, 1924 - February 24, 2006 John Lewis Morrison passed away at home February 24, 2006. John was born in Russell, MB, on March 21, 1924. His father Donald Morrison worked for CP Rail and as such, John lived and attended school in Maryfield, Carnduff and Gainsborough. John enlisted with the Saskatoon Light Infantry in July of 1943 and served overseas until June 1946. On April 23, 1947, he married Phylliss Elliot Shaw of Gainsborough, SK. They operated restaurants in Elgin and Hartney from 1949 to October 1955. John entered the insurance business in 1955 and served the Hartney, Deloraine and Elgin areas until his retirement in 1988. John served his community as an active member of the Hartney United Church, Elks Lodge, Canadian Red Cross and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was also involved locally in coaching minor hockey and baseball. John relished his Scottish heritage, and enjoyed gardening, golf and following the sporting exploits of his children and grandchildren. John was predeceased by his parents Donald and Johanna; brothers, Donald and Henry; sisters-in-law, Mary and Ruth; brothers-in-law, Ken Coates, Bill Newman, Jim Shaw and Bill Taylor. John is survived by his wife Phylliss; children, Lewis (Karen), John (Betty), Donald (Phyllis), Gloria (Murray) McMillan, Greg (Wilma) and Tim (Carol); as well as 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He also leaves to mourn sisters, Wilma Coates and Myra Newman; sisters-in-law, Eloise Shaw, Betty Taylor, Kathleen Trimble; and brother-in-law Hiram Trimble; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of John's life was held Monday, February 27 at Hartney United Church, with Rev. Beth McLean officiating. Special thanks to guest Piper, Ted Brown. A reception followed at Hartney Centennial Centre. Funeral arrangements were with Smith Funeral Home, Deloraine, MB. Friends that so desire, memoriams may be made in John's memory to Hartney United Church, Hartney Arena, Hartney Golf Course or a charity of choice.
