GEORGE BELL WOOD February 3, 1928 March 17, 2006 After a courageous battle with cancer, George Wood passed on March 17, 2006 with his daughter Sherri and son-in-law Larry at his side. Predeceased by his wife of 50 years Marguerite on May 25, 2005, his two sisters Elizabeth and Jeanne and his parents, he leaves to mourn his daughter Sherri, her husband Larry Vilk, son Ford and grandsons Spencer and Jordan Wood, along with numerous relatives and friends. George's business career started at Academy Service Station, and then he moved on to the Royal Bank. In 1950, he joined Bonar and Bemis Bags and worked there in continually more responsible positions for 25 years until 1975. Throughout his 25 years with the company, he lived in Winnipeg, Burlington, Vancouver, and then back in Winnipeg. An Entrepreneur at heart, George went into business in 1975 in the environmental lining industry with partners and then with his son until his retirement at age 76. George had many passions in life besides his business. He was always interested in family and organized a family reunion in 2005. He was proud of both his children and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. He and Marg loved to travel and visited Australia, California and Arizona on a regular basis. In his younger years, George was an avid golfer and curler, winning awards for a hole-in-one in golf and prizes in curling bonspiels. In his later years, George enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and golf, and visiting with friends and family. He had a rich and full life. George unselfishly looked after his wife Marg during her prolonged illness and still kept his marvelous sense of humour. During his illness, he was grateful to the caring and compassionate staff on the Geriatric and Oncology wards at St. Boniface Hospital, and to his Doctors Charles Olweny and Andrew Cooke. The family expresses their deepest thanks to all of those mentioned above as well as the family and friends who visited George or called throughout his stay in hospital and at home. You really made a difference and we are grateful that you cared so much. Memorial Service will be held Thursday March 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg R2W 3V7. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to CancerCare Manitoba 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 be made in his memory. Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
