BLAKE BOND BATCHELOR December 4, 1935 - March 17, 2006 Blake passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2006 after a battle against esophageal cancer with his family by his side. Predeceased by his parents, Archie and Mamie Batchelor of Emerson; his parents-in-law, James and Effie Johnston of Emerson; brother Norman Batchelor of Winnipeg; brother Donald Batchelor and wife Gwen of Gretna, sister Delle Johnston and her husband Lorne of Emerson; brother Glen and his wife Lorraine Batchelor of Castlegar, BC; brother Allan Batchelor of St. Albert, AB; brother William Batchelor of Vernon, BC; brothers-in-law James Johnston of Emerson; and Robert Irvine of Winnipeg. Blake is survived by his beloved wife Joy, son Blaine, his wife LaRoyce, grandsons, Thomas and Robert of Winnipeg; son Gary and his wife Diane, grandson Derek and granddaughter Karen of Winnipeg; his grandchildren held a special place in his life and in his heart; sister Joan Irvine and her partner Leon Isenberg of Winnipeg, brother Clair and his wife Jackie of St. Eleanors, PEI, and sisters-in-law Margaret Batchelor of Winnipeg; Gwen Batchelor of St. Albert, AB; Betty Batchelor of Vernon, BC; Colleen Dansereau and husband Ray of Winnipeg; Helen Johnston of Emerson; and many nieces and nephews. Blake Batchelor was born in Emerson in 1935, moved to Gretna in 1936 returning to Emerson in 1947. He attended Emerson Collegiate. His childhood was enriched by family and friends. Blake moved to Winnipeg in 1955 and began his 35 years of service with the CNR. Blake and Joy were married in 1958. He enjoyed a full life which included curling, hockey, golf and over 25 years of motor-homing. Blake especially enjoyed the meetings at the watering hole. Cremation has taken place. The family wishes to invite relatives and friends to a Remembrance Luncheon at 12:00 pm, Sunday, March 26 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers please send donations to WRHA Palliative Care Subprogram Fund in care of HSC Foundation, MS7820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9 or a charity of your choice. An interment will be held at the Emerson Cemetery during the Batchelor family reunion in August of 2007. Thank you to Dr. Jerry Bergen, Dr. Amitava D. Chowdhury, Dr. H.W. Unruh, Gwen and Anne, and the nurses from palliative care. There is no past we can bring back by longing for it.
