Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Jake, of almost 60 years; her children, Lorne of Beausejour, Darlene (Ken) Witzke of Beausejour and Maureen (Rick) Schindel of Winnipeg. She will also be dearly missed by her four grandchildren, Kelly (Tracy) Witzke of Calgary, Brady Witzke (Jaymi Chudo) of Winnipeg, Daniel Schindel of Michigan and Adam Schindel of Winnipeg. Tillie is survived by two brothers, Art and Gordon (Ruth) and two sisters Rosie (Henry) Schultz and Olga Biberdorf. She will also be missed by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tillie was predeceased by her parents John and Lydia, her sister Lillie (Ted) Stengel and brother Jake Topnik. Tillie will always be remembered as a strong, loving and caring person. She enjoyed spending time with family, relatives and friends. Mom was born on March 1, 1920 in Niverville, MB. She was raised on her parents farm in Hochstadt. As a teenager she went to work for relatives helping with housework and the children. Later, Mom worked in the kitchen at Steinbach Hospital and Grace Hospital. She was later employed by the Genser and Treppel families. Tillie and Jake were married on June 15, 1946. After her marriage they settled in Green Bay (6 miles N.E. of Beausejour). Tillie loved to garden, grow early vegetables and nurture a beautiful flower garden. She spent endless hours sewing and creating quilts. Mom was the best cook in the whole world as witnessed by family and friends. Mom had a strong faith, she prayed fervently for her family, especially for her grandchildren. It was common to find her at the kitchen table reading her Bible. She rarely watched T.V. but made a point of enjoying certain T.V. evangelists. Tillie attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Green Bay, where she sang in the choir for over 40 years. She was often called upon to cook or bake for church events, even while in her 80s she still served her church. Tillie's strength of character showed in her determination of spirit. Always Smiling', she loved to dress well, have family gatherings and dance. Her keen financial mind saw her family through many good years. Jake and Tillie were able to travel a lot. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. East, Beausejour with Intern Pastor Colette Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Green Bay Cemetery.
