Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHEINZ LAGE After a lengthy illness, Heinz Lage passed away on March 21, 2006 at Concordia Hospital. Heinz was born October 23, 1921 to Hans and Margaret (nee Klassen) Lage in Einlage, Southern Ukraine. During the Second World War he was enlisted as a translator by the German Army. He lost touch with all his relatives in 1943. After the war he was repatriated back to Russia and spent the next ten years in a forced labour camp. Upon his release in Kazakhstan, he met and married his wife Beate (nee Maertins) in December 1955. Their daughter Irene was born in 1961. In the late 60s he found his three brothers in Canada through the Red Cross. In 1975 the family immigrated to Canada and became Canadian citizens in 1981. Heinz worked at Kitchen Craft for approximately 15 years. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing, working at his cottage, playing chess, and most of all babysitting and driving his two granddaughters. When health allowed, Heinz was an active member of the North Kildonan Mennonite Church. Heinz was predeceased by his brother Hans in September 2004. He is survived by his wife Beate; daughter Irene and her husband David Warkentin, and their daughters, Lauralyn and Nicolette; brothers, Leonard (Hilda) and Rudy (Louise). His optimism and bright outlook on life will be truly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Dr. Carey Isaac and the staff at Concordia Hospital for the excellent care provided during his illness. Funeral service will be Friday, March 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St., Winnipeg. Viewing will be one-half hour prior to the service. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Movement Centre, 1646 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, R2G 1N7.
