ALBERT KENNETH (KEN) BEVAN 1924 -2006 Ken passed away peacefully at 4:05 p.m. on March 21, 2006 surrounded by family members. He is survived by his wife Eileen; two sons, David and Richard; two daughters-in-law, Ellen and Colleen; five grandchildren, Mark, Matthew, Nikki, Michelle, Johnathan, their spouses Donna and George; and eight great-grandchildren, Max, Erika, Erin, Greg, Lawrence, Mag, Jem and Zoe. Ken was born in Kirkella, Yorkshire, England on July 1, 1924 to Henry and Alice Bevan. Ken and Eileen worked in Shipyards in Hull during the Second World War. They met the year before the war ended and were married on St. Patrick's Day 1945 after surviving the constant bombing of Hull throughout the war. They had just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on March 17. In 1954 Ken, Eileen and their two sons moved to Lowestoft, England where Ken worked as an engineer at Brooke Marine Shipyard until 1968 when they moved to Saint John, NB. He worked in the Irving Shipyard as Quality Control Manager during the construction of Naval Supply Vessels and worked for the Irving Corporation until he retired in 1989, running several of Irving's companies including Scot Trucks in Debert Nova Scotia. After retiring in 1989 Ken and Eileen moved to Burlington, ON to be with lifelong friends Nick and Isobel Nicholson. Ken became an active member of the Knox Presbyterian Church where he spent many happy hours with its congregation. A special thank you to this caring group for their support. In 2005 they both moved to Winnipeg to be with their family. They moved into The Westhaven Assisted Living Retirement Home and have been very happy there. The family would like to thank the staff at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit 3 East for their support and understanding during Ken's final days. At Ken's request cremation will take place at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and the family will have a private celebration of his life shortly after the cremation.
