Date of Passing: Mar 17, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEUGENE UKRAINICE After a long struggle with the complications from diabetes, Eugene passed away Friday, March 17, 2006 at the age of 64. Eugene will be greatly missed by his wife Myrtle; sisters, Mabel (Tom), Theresa (Peter) and Marcia (Sam). Also by his aunts Livinia (Alec), Regina and Teenie, uncles, Joe (Carol), Don, Nick (Hattie) and Eugene (Joan); by his in-laws, Stella, Pearl, John (Ann), Mike (Jacquie), Bill (Florence) and all his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Peter and mother Natalie. Eugene was a great communicator. He started using this talent when he worked as a reporter and photographer for the Winnipeg Tribune and carried it through with his Australian pen pal (11 year old) for 29 years. In recent years, he gave up using lottery ticket paper, paper towel or any type of paper he could lay his hands on, instead, he found a new plaything - the computer to keep in touch with his relatives and friends. Jokes were his specialty. Gene also used his salesmanship skills when he worked for Versatile and then 19 years for Shippam and Associates. Eugene enjoyed the outdoors and made yearly visits to the Ponderosa and Sandy Lake to enjoy fishing and hunting in the company of his relatives and friends. In the 1960s he was an Honorary Member of West Kildonan Police Department Gun Club - Miller Road Range. He developed a passion for playing cards. Imagine, three women against one man. He never stood a chance against all the razzing, but he always asked for more. We will miss him greatly, it'll never be the same. A special thank-you to Ken and Joan Maxwell. Eugene considered Ken the brother he never had, his visits at home and in the hospital were greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Deacon Nick Kohuch officiating. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diabetes Society, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
