Born in Brighton, England, Joan joined the RAF in 1943 as a radar operator until her marriage to Neil in 1945. Joan loved to read and enjoyed a distinguished career as a reference library assistant in Winnipeg at the St. James Library. She was a member of the I.O.D.E. and a past President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Manitoba Association of Optometry. Joan's home was a testament to her wonderful sense of interior design and decorating. She was a gracious hostess and enjoyed preparing wonderful dinners for her circle of friends as well as family gatherings. Her sense of humour and infectious laughter lifted our spirits. Joan enjoyed gardening and was very skilled in sewing and knitting. A favourite hobby was painting in oils and water colours. Joan loved to travel and spent many winter holidays with her husband in Hawaii and summer holidays in Britain. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's name to the Golden West Centennial Lodge Memorial Fund, 811 School Rd., Winnipeg, R3C 4G2.
