EDWARD J. (TED) COX Ted Cox passed away peacefully at Grace General Hospital on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the age of 76. Ted will be missed and remembered by Pat, his beloved wife of almost 53 years. He will also be remembered by his son Greg (Patricia Salam); granddaughter Victoria; daughters, Sheila (Terry) and Janice (Nick); and sisters, Betty (Jack) Gilbert and Lynn (Dick) Hovey. Ted was born in Winnipeg on December 6, 1929. He attended Kelvin High School where he excelled at the quarterback position on the high school football team. Like many Winnipeggers, one of his early jobs was at Eatons where he got a taste for selling. He must have been a good one as he sold Pat Davidson on sharing her life with him. They moved to Toronto in the mid-fifties where Ted held positions in both sales and management with a number of companies including Rexall Drugs and Pittsburgh Paint Glass. While down east, Ted was active as a Scout leader and took his boys on many jamborees and camping trips, even in the dead of winter. His love of camping extended to the family and we had a different adventure every summer somewhere in Ontario or New York State. The family moved back to Winnipeg in 1967. Ted became active at St. Chad's Anglican Church and was one of a small group of visionary Anglicans and Roman Catholics that got together and built the Assiniboia Christian Centre on west Portage Avenue. He reluctantly retired in the early nineties - he could often be seen still carrying his briefcase. He was a proud and active member of the North West Commercial Travellers' Association for 53 years. It wasn't long after his retirement that he was diagnosed with Alzheimers. We hope that his friends will remember the good times they had with Ted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1X9 or Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7. The family would like to thank the emergency room staff and spiritual care providers at Grace General Hospital for their compassionate care and support. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal, 984 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
