KATHLEEN LUPTON (nee GARLAND) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Kathleen on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 87 years. Mom was born in Winnipeg, March 4, 1919, beloved daughter of Thomas and Nellie Garland. Growing up with her best friend , her niece Margaret (the daughter of Mom's older stepsister Vera (William Purser), Mom had many fond memories of her childhood in Weston and the North End. Her family from her mother's side were her second family . Uncle William and Mariah Green and cousins, Jim, Edith, Margaret and William. After graduation from Daniel McIntyre, Mom attended Normal School and began a lifetime teaching career at Cecil Rhodes School. An accomplished pianist as well, she directed hundreds of choirs, rhythm bands and school musicals throughout her lifetime. She also taught legions of private piano students. In 1946, she renewed her acquaintance with Captain Mac Joseph Lupton through membership in the First English Lutheran Church choir. Married on February 4, 1950, the happy couple moved to Wildwood Park and weathered The 1950 Flood. With the births of their two children, Joe and Elizabeth, the family moved to a larger home, remaining in Fort Garry for the duration of their lives. Reluctantly retiring in 1984 from Oakenwald School in Fort Garry, Mom continued to associate with her fellow teachers. She and Dad enjoyed mall-walking, swimming and spending many relaxing summers at their Point du Bois cabin. Health problems gradually curtailed their activities and when Dad passed away in 1998, Mom found difficult to recover from his loss. She did, however enjoy several lengthy visits to the new home of Elizabeth and son-in-law Garry in Kaleden, BC, in her later years. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Mac Joseph and niece Margaret Greenwood. Remaining to cherish her memory are son Joseph Lupton (Mary Jane) and grandchildren, Kayleen (Chris), Mary-Joelle, Teresa, Colin, Jeremy and Colleen (Rob) and great-grandchildren, Emery and Elissa; daughter Elizabeth (Garry); nephew-in-law Larry Greenwood, cousin Margaret Morris and extended family. Many thanks to her G.P., Dr. Kousonsavath, respiratory specialist Dr. Taraska, ophthalmologist Dr. Bhayaha and dentist Dr. Kaminsky. Deep appreciation is extended to her close neighbours, Jim and Jane Bruce and Marge and Emile Campbell whose loving support enhanced her remaining years. Mom enjoyed the devoted care of her children, their spouses and her grandchildren, especially in the last two months at the hospital and the personal care home. Thank you to Nora, her home care support who took such good care of her, and in her last weeks, the dedicated nurses, doctors and kind room mates at the Victoria Hospital 3rd and 4th floors and the Misericordia Interim Care. The interment will be held at St. John's Cathedral Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Dr. at Point Road, Rev. Kolleen Karlowsky-Clark officiating. Flowers are respectfully declined. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms, I am going to prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:1-3,6 neil bardal inc. 949-2200
