SIDNEY BERNARD LEWIS Sid was born on August 29, 1933 in Winnipeg, youngest child of Abraham and Ruth Labovich. A north end boy, Sid graduated from St. John's. He attended U of M and held certificates in radiology, hospital organization and management, gerontology and from the Canadian College of Health Service Executives. In 1950, Sid met the love of his life, Joyce. They married in 1956. Sid managed hospitals in Birtle, Rossburn and Shoal Lake from 1962 until 1969. In 1969, Sid worked for the city of Brandon as director of welfare and recreation. From 1974 until retirement in 1995, Sid was administrator of Fairview Home. Sid volunteered expertise to boards, including Child and Family Services, Manitoba Long Term Care Council, Council on Services to the Elderly, Manitoba Health Organization, RPNAM and the Reh-Fit Centre. Sid was a founder of the gerontology program at Assiniboine Community College and the Canadian College of Health Service Executives. He was involved with United Appeal, Brandon Volunteer Bureau, Lions Club, Rotary International and the Canada Winter Games. Sid was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandparent. He was proud of his Jewish heritage. In earlier years, Sid enjoyed skiing and cycling. He was gentlemanly in manner and dress. He loved Joyce's cooking, dining out and bed snacks. He liked movies, reading, cars, cats, canasta and emailing. He and Joyce traveled often, enjoying trips to Spain, Greece and England. He had a keen interest in people and current events. He was fun-loving and accident-prone. He loved jokes and told hilarious stories about his misadventures. Sid died on March 25, 2006 after a brave struggle with heart disease and cancer. Sid will be greatly missed by Joyce, Carla, Dana (Eric) and Paula (Parker), grandchildren Anna, Esther, Claire, Olivia, Samuel, Nicholas, and Sarah, his brother Toby (Vicki), extended family members and friends. Sid was predeceased by his parents and sister, Miriam White (Jimmy). Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kroeker and Dr. Johnston, staff at Victoria Hospital and many others who helped Sid. Service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.   • Never new the passing of uncle syd until I entered my mothers obituary because my dads wife had shut me and my family out of my fathers life so I lost contact with all my fathers family , I loved uncle syd and how he gave me so much respect and also when he met my wife Anita , my condolences and love go out to Carla , Dana and Paula who I miss so much , all our love and prayers from Joel & Anita .
