Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS (TOM) ERNEST MOWAT It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and soon to be great-great-grandfather, Tom at the Selkirk General Hospital on March 25, 2006. He was the last of a family of 13. Dad was very lonely after he lost Mom. He was a strong man considering everything he went through, losing seven very close family members in a period of three years. Dad was looking forward to becoming a great-great-grandfather, Another Generation , he said. He was also looking forward to spring so he could sit out on the deck. Dad is survived by his children, Shirley (George) Selkirk, Lillian (Eggert) Thordarson, Linda Smith and Ernie Mowat Sr.; daughter-in-law Sarah; son-in-law Reggie; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Allie; brother-in-law Roland; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and adopted granddaughter Carol. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Nora, one son, one stepson, three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Dad was a fisherman and trapper most of his life and found it hard to give up, but had to, due to health problems. He had a great sense of humour. Always joking, especially with the nurses at Percy E. Moore Hospital. Thanks to the nurses at the hospital, especially his favourite, Ann . Special thanks to the ambulance workers, Leah Penhall, Linda and Tony for doing CPR. Thank you also to the Whiteway family who was always there for us when we needed them, Melvin for your many visits with Dad, to Chris and Wanda for everything you did for Dad, to Buddy and Ann and Gilbart's Funeral Home (Wes, who he thought the world of). Special thanks to Shirley and Geordie for always being there for Dad. A big thank you to Michelle for caring for Dad after Mom passed away. Dad thought the world of Nick and Hannah (his baby girl). It was Nick, Hannah and Cuddles the cat that kept him going as long as he did. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 30 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. in the Matheson Island Community Hall. Interment to follow in the Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Melvin and Robert Whiteway, Chris, Johnny and Kevin Mowat and Kenny Bird. Rest in Peace Dad! Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
