LANDIS WESLEY STANLAKE It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of Landis, on Friday, March 31, 2006 at the St. Boniface General Hospital, from acute myeloid leukemia. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Vi; son Jerin; daughter Andrea Robertson (Michael); dearly loved grandson Cameron; sisters, Linda, Arlene and Diana; nieces, Deborah, Diana, Lisa and Tara and nephew Jason. Landis was born in Winnipeg on April 5, 1939 and was pleased to celebrate this year as his fiftieth year in the workplace. He achieved his Bachelor of Science in 1968 and obtained his MBA in 1983; both from the University of Manitoba. In 1968, he married Vi and together they built the home in which they were happy to raise their children and in which he was happy to live in for the rest of his life. When he was 16 years old, Landis' first job was at the Bank of Commerce. He was first employed with Manitoba Hydro in 1961. Landis worked at Monarch Life Insurance, Manitoba Telephone System and Gandalf Systems. Landis returned to Manitoba Hydro in 1989 where he had the opportunity to work in a variety of positions. He enjoyed and respected working for Manitoba Hydro and his colleagues. Landis worked as a general accountant in Hydro's Transmissions and Distribution Finance department and retired from Hydro in 2006. Landis was an avid gardener and tropical fish and orchid hobbyist. He had a great love of reading and learning. Among his wide range of interests was an absolute delight in the life and works of Mark Twain. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles St. with Rev. Fr. Terance P. McGrath presiding. Interment will follow in St. Charles Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerin Stanlake, Michael Robertson, Allen Stanlake, Lowell Stanlake, Paul Richardson and Roy Richardson. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Landis' memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E OV9. Death is the starlit strip between the companionship of yesterday and the reunion of tomorrow. From readings on Mark Twain. Landis' arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We were reminiscing today about when we lived in Manitoba and we thought of Landis. I decided to google him and we were sad to see this obituary. Roy worked with him at Gandalf until we transferred to Halifax (where we still are). Landis was a good man and we enjoyed visiting with him in his home as well as at work. Our sincere condolences to Vi and the family. - Posted by: Roy and Jo-Anne Galloway (Former coworker) on: Nov 26, 2020
