WILLIAM (BILL) EMPEY With sincere love and high regard, the family and friends of Gerard William Empey, known as Bill , announce his peaceful passing at the time of his death on March 30, 2006, at the Deer Lodge Care Centre. Bill was born April 14, 1923 in Montreal. Due to the sudden passing five days later of his mother Annie (Donovan) Empey, he was brought up in Winnipeg by his grandmother ~ Mrs. Amy Elizabeth Empey. When war was declared in 1939, he joined the army. Later during the Italian Campaign he became a casualty with severe head wounds. Coming home to Canada, he returned to the Ft. Rouge CNR shops until his retirement. His health improved slowly and in 1953, on July 18, he married Edna Victoria Pasmore. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary in 2005. Bill's father, Charles Empey, now deceased, had four other children before Bill. He later entered a second marriage and four more children were born. Bill is survived by five sisters, Alice, Peggy, Myra, Pat and Pearl, along with brothers, Gordon and Walter. Sisters, Myrtle, Gertie and Kay and brothers, Raymond, Barney, Harold, Earl, Harry, Tom and Charles are deceased. Bill spent his life as a volunteer in Boy Scouts of Canada, St. John Ambulance and the Navy League of Canada, along with other organizations. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 62 years. He was a choir boy at St. Margaret's Anglican Church and later sang in the senior choir at St. Luke's Anglican Church. Our family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Deer Lodge Care Centre for the wonderful care and love that Bill was given. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 3 at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St., at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and Bill's cremated remains will be placed in the Soldiers Chapel of the church following the service, in the presence of the family. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 730 Taylor Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3M 2K8 and the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6.
