LAURENT (LARRY) PERRON Peacefully, on Monday, March 27, 2006, with his family at his side, Laurent (Larry) Perron left this earth to rejoin his wife of 56 years, Dorilla (née Lahaie) who had predeceased him in 1998. Larry was also predeceased by his brothers, Antoine, Gaëtan, Damien (Cecile), and René; sisters, Laurette Boisjoli, Noëlla (Frank Dreher), Thérèse; brothers-in-law, Denis Catellier, Jean Lahaie and sister-in-law, Rose Perron. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by, his sons, Ronald (Anita) and Raymond (Yvonne); daughter, Kathleen; brothers, Jean (Ingrid), Arthur, and François; sisters, Aline ((Don Smith) and Pat (Edwin Johnson); sisters-in-law, Aline Lahaie, Isabelle Catellier and Bernadette (Fernand Bérard). Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Kimberley-Ann Capner (Kenny), Jeffrey (Tracey), Jocelyn (Laura), Joël and Martin, great-grandchildren, Daniel, Roxanne, Travis, Brendyn, Julia, Alysha and Ashley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, in particular, Phil and Marjorie Perron and special friends, Herb and Lorne. Larry was born on August 9, 1916 and raised in Montmartre, SK. Near the end of the Depression, he came to Manitoba where he met and married Mom in 1942. He served with the RCAF from 1941 to 1946. He went overseas and re-enlisted from 1951 to 1961. In the interim, he dabbled in farming, including custom harvesting. After 1961, he continued with his life passion, flying, as a flying instructor with the 402 Auxiliary Reserve Squadron. He also spent many years as a flying instructor with Graffo Flying Club in Winnipeg. He also worked an an electrician at Lavergne Electric in St. Pierre-Jolys for many years. In 1971, he left rural life and moved to Fort Richmond where he embarked on yet another career, this time as lab steward in micro-biology at the University of Manitoba where he stayed until he was 80. In all of his endeavours, whether they be flying, farming, purchasing science supplies or doing electrical work, he always took fierce pride in doing excellent work. His oft-stated motto was What needs to be done, needs to be done perfectly. As a younger man, he enjoyed curling and did his share to get the fledgling curling club up and running, even to the point of hauling water from Winnipeg to St. Pierre to have mineral-free water to make perfect ice. His most enjoyable hobby however was bridge. Countless evenings were spent with family and friends in what was probably, next to flying, his most satisfying and enjoyable pastime. He was particularly fond of helping people with trees from his nursery. He would gladly give you 25 Blue Spruces in the palms of his two hands and to your bewilderment would add we have all the time in the world. He was a jack-of-all-trades and that was certainly exemplified by his contribution in the construction of Ron's cottage at Buffalo Point. It symbolizes today many of the life lessons Dad passed on to us: pride in one's work, attention to detail, striving for perfection, the value of a good day's work and especially that one has to enjoy what one is doing, most especially when doing it for people you love. Your journey here is now over; as you always said, There's a time to work and a time to rest! Well, it is now your time for a well-deserved rest. We all have many keep-sakes of what you have done for us whether it be bird houses or some spiritual touch you have left. We shall miss you, we shall always love you, and befitting a good veteran, We Shall Never Forget . The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at T4, Deer Lodge Centre for their care and compassion. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. on Monday, April 3 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry's memory to the Tower Four Foundation, Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220
