MICHAEL KOSTECKY Peacefully, on Friday, March 31, 2006 at Health Sciences Centre, Michael Kostecky, aged 83 years, beloved husband of Anna. Michael was born September 17, 1922 in Ulyczno, Ukraine. In 1941, he left for Germany where he met and married his wife Anna with whom he celebrated their 60th anniversary on February 18, 2006. They immigrated to Canada arriving in Kylemore, SK on October 30, 1948 and then settling in Winnipeg in 1950. Dad was employed at Winnipeg Cold Storage for 36 years, retiring in 1987. In his spare time, Dad's passions were reading historical accounts, collecting books, and writing articles which were submitted and published in Homin Ukraina. He also enjoyed carpentry and working around the house and yard, always replacing or painting something that needed touching up. Dad's foremost concern was always for his family and loved when we would all be together at holiday time when he could recite stories or discuss politics and current issues. His happiest times that always brought a smile to his face were when he would talk about or spend time with his one and only precious granddaughter, Ivanka. Up until 2002, Tato was an avid bowler and one of his proudest moments was being a member of the Seniors' Provincial Championship team. He was always willing to help and lend a hand and was a regular volunteer at his Church and an active member of the Ukrainian Seniors' Club, Zoloti Vorota . Besides his loving wife Anna, Michael leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Irene (Bohdan); granddaughter Ivanka; sister Anna of Ukraine; special sister-in-law Stella (Stanley) Stefanyshyn; nephew Henry Zbuk (Gail); grand-nephews, Kevin (Lenore), Randy and John. He was predeceased by his daughter Sylvia in 1971. Panachyda will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 3 (tonight) at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating, assisted by Fr. I. Mostivsky. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Thank you to Dr. I Mohammed for his long time care and compassion that he has displayed to my Dad and to the First Response Unit who were so quick to arrive and provide assistance. Donations in Michael's memory may be made to Children of Chernobyl fund, 2118-A Bloor St. W., Suite 200, Toronto, ON M6S 1M8. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
