Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT LLOYD MENZIES With great sadness we announce the passing of our much loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on April 1, 2006, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 89. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Alice; daughter Sandra (Bob); grandchildren Cameron, Sean (Dana) and Vanessa (Scott) and five great-grandchildren. Also mourning his loss are his sister Ethel Brown; brother Bill (Anne); sisters-in-law Margaret, Olive and Gene, numerous nieces and nephews and his special niece Heather. He was predeceased by his son Ian Robert; parents John Edward and Florence; brothers John, Joseph, and Edward; sister-in-law Yvonne; brother-in-law Morley Brown and his adopted sister Margaret Warren. Lloyd was born on July 13, 1916 at the family farm near Oakburn, MB. He was proud to serve his country overseas during the Second World War and was involved in the liberation of Holland. While overseas he met and married the love of his life, Alice Tough of Glasgow, Scotland. They established themselves in Winnipeg where he worked for Brooks Equipment/Cummins Diesel from 1946 until 1981. Lloyd and Alice enjoyed many trips during their retirement years, especially the one to Holland for the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation. They also spent many winters in Texas, particularly enjoying the dancing, golfing, and making many new friends. He was also a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No, 9 and for many years he was actively involved with Old St. Andrews United Church, serving as an elder and working with many committees. Lloyd made friends wherever he went. He loved playing his violin with the Seniors Melody Band, entertaining audiences up to the day of his heart attack. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital CCU and 5B Medicine, especially the constant care workers, for their kindness and support. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with a reception to follow. Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lloyd's memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice. Words cannot express my feelings about our loss. Lloyd was a loving husband & father to you and a special brother to me. He loved you all and was so proud of his family. Bob, he once told me he could not have asked for a better son-in-law. I hope and pray that love will give you the strength to carry on. Lloyd will always be a special flower in God’s Garden. Love Ethel Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. May your wonderful memories of Uncle Lloyd help ease your pain at this sad time.
