Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANET (JENNIE) MCMASTER ROBERTSON (nee BARRIE) With family by her side, Jennie passed away peacefully in her sleep during the wee hours of April 2, 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Jennie's memory will be cherished by her daughter Marion Dearlove (Keewatin), son Ian and wife Donna Collins (Winnipeg) and daughter Sheila and husband David Jennings (Winnipeg); Nana will be missed very much by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ReneƩ and David Baker and son Emerson (Kenora), Alison Dearlove and Eric Lovas and sons Zachary and Jordan (Kenora), Julie D'Avignon and Mike Bessette (Vancouver) and Heather, Bryan and Karyn Robertson (Winnipeg); Jennie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in the Toronto area. Jennie was predeceased by John (2005) her husband of 63 years, son-in-law David Dearlove of Keewatin (2004), brother Jim (1999) of East Kilbride, Scotland, sister Christine Reid (1993) and brother-in-law Robert Reid (1977) of Mississauga, and brother-in-law David Robertson of Edinburgh (2001). Jennie was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 26, 1917. During her early years she enjoyed her summers at the family cottage at Largs, Scotland, walking on the seaside and racing pigeons with her Dad. Jennie met John (Jock) the love of her life in the late thirties and they were married during the war in 1941. They started a family and Jennie cared for their Glasgow home and their two children Ian and Marion with supreme love and efficiency for a lonesome five years of warfare. In 1951 John, Jennie, Ian and Marion moved to Winnipeg, Canada. A few short years later daughter Sheila was born. They had moved to Winnipeg to be closer to sister Christine and her husband Bob Read and in hopes of finding opportunities for employment and a comfortable place to raise a family. They were not disappointed and enjoyed their new home in Winnipeg very much. In 1967 the family moved to Pinawa for a few years before returning to Winnipeg in 1983 following John's retirement. Retirement meant travel and in subsequent years many miles were covered in Canada and the U.S. In 1987, a return trip to Scotland offered a nostalgic and wonderful few weeks in the land of her birth. Jennie displayed a keen interest and skill in sewing, knitting and crocheting and created many beautiful projects throughout the years. She always kept a loving home, was a devoted and caring wife, mother, Nana and friend. Jennie enjoyed bridge and other card games, a good cup a tea, a friendly chat and rarely missed an episode of Coronation Street. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their care and kindness shown to Janet and her family during her hospital stay. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with cremation to follow. Honorary pallbearers include Bryan Robertson, David Jennings, David Baker, Eric Lovas, Mike Bessette, Bill Reid, Barrie Reid.
