Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINNIE ISABEL ROCKWELL May 7, 1918 - April 2, 2006 On Sunday, April 2, 2006, with a single tear in her eye, Winnie took her last breath. Remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Barrie, who resides in British Columbia, Bruce (Alison) and Bill of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Ray, Keith, Russ, Skot and Brenden; four great-grandchildren, Cherise, Shana, Bryan and Jordie; and two great-great-grandchildren, Cory and Ava. Winnie was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond John Rockwell in 1962; her only daughter Roma in 1995; and her grandson Kelly when he was 16 years old. Mom grew up on Walker Avenue in Ft. Rouge. She was the only daughter of Christopher Brown and Elizabeth Wilson, who originated from Scotland. Winnie's favorite memories were the times at the family cottage out in Grand Beach, in the days of the train ride, the dance hall and the big bands. When her husband Ray died in 1962, life became more difficult for mom raising us kids on her own. She enjoyed being with her kids and their friends, treating the friends as her own. Being a true Scot, she liked good beer, curling, football, cooking shows and a party. Being feisty is a kind word to use to describe her for anyone who knew her. She appreciated people who were themselves, it did not matter to her what they had or owned. In accordance with Winnie's wishes, a private family funeral service is being arranged. Sincere thanks to Dr. Hamm and the incredible staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Home, where she lived since age 86. The care was exceptional, especially during her last days. Jack, it was above and beyond, thank you. In lieu of flowers, donations in Winnie's memory may be made to the Kildonan Friendship Fund, 1970 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2G1P2. Funds will be used for a family barbeque for all the residents, a party she loved. A final tear of sadness A final tear of joy Crossing over to be with mom and dad Riding the train to Grand Beach Visiting with family and old friends Music, talking and laughing and all along the way telling them like it is.
