ADAM (AL) MUIRMAN HALLIDAY Peacefully and with his family by his side, Al Halliday of Winnipeg passed away on April 2, 2006. Survived by Dorothy his wife of 60 years. Also survived by his daughter Margaret (Gil) and grandchildren, Jennifer (Leigh), Kyle (Ellie) and Matt and son Crawford and Diane and grandchildren, Adria and Shannon. Also survived by one brother Tom and sisters-in-law, Tess Halliday and Ellen Wherrett and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Gibson (Vic) and Helen Halliday and brothers, Matt, John and Cameron and two sisters, Elizabeth and Juanita and brother-in-law W. T. Wherrett. Born June 8, 1915 on the family farm in the municipality of Shoal Lake. Educated in Wheatfield and Oakburn. During four years of service in the army during the Second World War, he served in England, Africa, Italy and Holland. Al returned home to marry Dorothy Wherrett, a teacher, also of Shoal Lake. Following their marriage, he worked as an employment counsellor as they moved from Winnipeg to Selkirk, Fort Frances and Dauphin where Al and Dorothy retired. During retirement he and Dorothy travelled through England, Scotland and North America. Four years ago, they relocated to Winnipeg where they met many new friends. Al was a life member of the United Church and Rotary International. He was also very active in other community organizations including Kinsmen and CNIB. His family will remember him for his paintings of nature, several of which have been collected by his children and grandchildren. He was a member of art clubs in Dauphin and Fort Frances and especially enjoyed painting the scenery around Rainy Lake. We will miss his presence at family picnics, his creativity and enthusiasm for gardening, and his keen intellect in reading and discussions and above all, his love and quiet kindness. Whether camping at Laughing Water, picnicking at Clear Lake, playing a good game of bridge, or driving in the park on Sunday, Al most enjoyed being with the family. He left us as he led us, with quiet dignity. In the midst of winter, I found there was within me, an invincible summer - Camus Memorial service will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 7.
