PAULINE EDMONDSON (SAWULA) We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dearly beloved Aunty and sister-in-law, Pauline Edmondson on the morning of Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Health Sciences Centre. Stricken by a debilitating stroke on January 19th of this year, Pauline has now been released into the arms of the Lord where she has journeyed on to Heaven to be reunited with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her only niece, Cathy and her husband Herb, as well as her three dear great-nephews, Christopher (Merren), Adam and Robert Cox. Also left to mourn her loss is her sister-in-law, Kathleen Sawula. Pauline was predeceased by her brother, Michael Sawula and her sister, Jean O'Connell as well as her only nephew, Gregory Sawula who left us over 20 years ago. Born in Winnipeg's North End on July 11, 1921 to parents of Ukrainian and Polish descent, Pauline was the youngest of three children. In her youth, she loved to play the piano and enjoyed socializing with friends at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. A free spirit, Pauline pursued her dreams and fulfilled her love for travel and excitement by eventually leaving Winnipeg to seek a new life in Los Angeles, California. There she procured employment in the aviation industry with McDonald Douglas Aircraft. It was in California that she met her former husband Bob, and they later moved to Ventura, California where they established a Montessori School for children. She was fortunate to later move to Huntington Beach, California where she resided in her cozy home for many wonderful years. Pauline enjoyed working in her mini orchard and shared her wonderful bounty of oranges, kumquats and avocados with her friends. She also found her new career with Rockwell International Corporation both fulfilling and exciting. Especially her work with the USAF Space Division where she was privileged to work on the development of the Challenger Space Shuttle. Pauline was a flamboyant individual with a flair for decorating and a like for the unusual. She was a colourful individual who loved to shop the flea markets in search of the unique or the unusual. We will always fondly remember and cherish our vacations with Aunty Pauline in California. We thank her for the wonderful times we spent together at Disney Land, San Diego and our favourite place Tijuana, Mexico where she taught us the skillful art of bartering. In 1997, Pauline returned to Winnipeg to be closer to her family who were very special to her. She thoroughly enjoyed our frequent family get-togethers and could always be counted on to be the first one to the table. Pauline's friends were also very important to her and we appreciate the kindness extended to her by her neighbours and friends in Sarina Towers, Kildonan House and Beacon Hill Lodge. Our sincere thanks to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge where Pauline resided for the past two years and to the caring health care providers at the Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and compassion. A memorial service and celebration of Pauline's life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Korban Funeral Chapel with Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating.
