ARTHUR (ART) ROBERT SPERRING
Date of Passing: Mar 30, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR (ART) ROBERT SPERRING On Thursday, March 30, 2006, Dad, in his 97th year, passed away peacefully at Vista Park Lodge. He was the son of the late Lillian and Austin Sperring. He was predeceased by his first wife Winnie, daughter Lillian Willie, sister Dorothy Smith and brother Ivan Sperring. He is survived by his second wife Ellen, daughter Doreen Johannesson (Ken), son-in-law Darryl Willie, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one niece, numerous nephews, and Dad's and Ellen's extended families. Dad was born in 1909 and raised on a farm in Bird's Hill, where he made many lifelong friends. Later he moved into Winnipeg where he married Winnie, and raised his family. He supported the war effort by working in the Cordite Plant in Selkirk. He then went on to work as a milkman for Silverwood Dairies until his retirement at the age of 65. He continued to help his replacement do deliveries until he turned 70. During the summer months, his farm upbringing came out, as he could always be seen working in his yard, in his garden, on his grass, and with his flowers. In the winter, he would always be snowblowing his sidewalk and back lane, as well as those of his neighbours. After his retirement, he met Ellen and he didn't slow down. They filled their lives with travelling, cards with friends, bowling, many visits to the VLTs, and Fort Rouge Leisure Centre activities. His last few years were spent at Vista Park Lodge. Thank you to all the nurses and caregivers there. A special thank you goes to Vicki, who, when nothing else could bring a smile to Dad's face, she could. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice in Dad's memory would be gratefully appreciated.
