RENE BENTEIN Peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, Rene Bentein passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 87 years. Rene was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Dolores Belot (Maurice), Diane Cole (Gary), Carol Ann Acland (Paul); his grandchildren, Brent Belot (Lucie), Andrea Guss (John), Christine Gedye (Neil), Brian Acland, Kelly Jubinville (Jean) and Erin Acland; seven great-grandchildren; his sister Mary Cain; sisters-in-law, Mimi Bentein and Irene Hoskins, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Clara DeWulf. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Emile and Prudence; his loving wife Madeleine; his brothers, Camiel, Paul, Jerry and Andy and his precious grandson, Jason Belot. Dad was born in St. Boniface on May 8, 1918, moving with his family to southern Ontario in 1925 and returning to St. Boniface in 1940. He met our mother, Madeleine, at the Belgian Club and they were married at the Belgian Sacred Heart Church on April 14, 1941. Dad served with the Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment during the Second World War. Dad was a member and shareholder of the Belgian Club for 65 years and served on the Executive for 16 years. He was a member of the Belgian Veterans Association, Branch #107, serving as President for 25 years, and recently received his 55 year pin. Dad had various jobs throughout his lifetime, farm labourer, construction worker, carpenter, machinist, and retired as a stationary engineer for the Province of Manitoba at Fort Osborne Barracks. A memorial service celebrating Rene's life will be held on Monday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the E.J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. with Fr. Ron Leger officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children's Fund for Glycogen Storage Disease Research, 917 Bethany Mountain Rd., Cheshire, CT 06410, The Compassionate Friends, 685 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0Z2 or a charity of your choice.
