PRIVATE ROBERT HENRI JOSEPH LAVALLEE 1916 2006 Robert Henri Joseph Lavallee born December 24, 1916 passed away on April 1, 2006 with his family by his side, at the age of 89. He is survived by his loving wife Gertrude of 60 years; his children, Martha (Maurice), Norma (Frank), Barbara (Rudy) Maureen (Ron), Rose, Richard (Evangeline), Agnes (Harry), Larry (Sue), John (Marie), Maurice, Ron (Andrea). He is predeceased by his son Joe Buck (Joyce), Robert was born and raised in Camperville. He was active in the service (Second World War) for six years from 1939 1946. He was a private machine gunner in France, Belgium and Holland. He landed on the beaches of Normandy, was wounded and survived two gunfire injuries. He received six medals, one of which was for bravery. He was self-employed as a commercial fisherman for years, and worked as a logger until he retired. Robert and Gertrude raised 12 children. Together they enjoyed spending time with their 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was very proud of his children, and loved having them visit home. His passion was spending time at his trappers cabin; at the age of 82 years he was still walking his trap-line. He will not be forgotten, he leaves many cherished memories that will be remembered and told over and over again by his wife, children, son and daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, numerous extended family and friends. Prayers were held on Wednesday evening April 5 at 7:00 p.m. from the Camperville Community Centre. Funeral service was held on Thursday April 6 at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Camperville. Fr. Jose Cabral officiated and the interment followed in the parish cemetery. The Royal Canadian Legion Swan River Branch # 39 led a poppy service in conjunction with the service. Pallbearers for the service were Bob Ferland, Ken Ferland, Ricky Bone, Matthew Lavallee, Harry Moosetail Jr., Don Lavallee, Cole Lavallee, Cody Moosetail. Honorary Pallbearers for the service were Cynthia McKay, Paulette Lavallee, Yvette Lavallee, Stacey Gauthier, Tanya Goosehead, Brittany Lavallee, Cheryl Thompson, Samantha Lavallee, Chantelle Bourassa If friends so desire donations in memory of Robert may be made to a charity of one's choice. The Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service had in care of the funeral arrangements.
