Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM HENRY GARDNER September 26, 1920 - April 6, 2006 It is with great sadness that the family announces Bill's passing on April 6, 2006 at the age of 85. Bill is survived by his daughter Linda and husband John Brant of Dartmouth, NS, grandson Derek and his wife Liz of Saskatoon, SK, granddaughter Sheylene and her husband Dave King of Sackville, NS and his great-grandson Brant King, whom he refered to as lefty, and who was the joy of his life. He also leaves to mourn his sister Florence Mark and son-in-law Peter Read of Winnipeg. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and in-laws as well as his good friend Jean McKelvey and his many friends at Lion's Manor. Bill was predeceased by his wife Peggy in November 1998, by his daughter Wendy Colborne (Gardner) in March 2005. Bill enlisted with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served in Canada and The United Kingdom from 1940 -1942. While in England he remustered into the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer and served with the Halifax Bomber Squadron until the end of the war. After his honourable discharge from the Forces Bill was employed with Winnipeg Transit for a short time before joining Canada Post, in which he served 30 years, retiring in 1985. Bill married Peggy May Dodd on June 29, 1946 and lived their entire lives in Winnipeg. He was a member of the Rockwood Legion where he enjoyed playing crib, darts, and lawn bowling in the seniors league. Bill also enjoyed the horse races and spent many hours at the track. Thanks to the staff of A4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and kindness. The family would like to give a special thanks to Bill's niece, Karen Cannell Jamieson for her thoughtfulness and caring of Bill in his family's absence during the past year. A memorial service will take place on Monday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with a reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in Bill's name.
