SR. MARGARET (IGNATIUS) ZENTNER, O.S.B. Peacefully, with praying companions at her side, Sr. Margaret Zentner passed away at 5:20 a.m. on April 6, 2006 at St. Benedict's Monastery Health Centre. Sr. Margaret was born in Langenburg, SK on October 16, 1923, the 4th eldest of 10 children but the first to leave the family nest. She was followed soon after by her brother Willie who was later killed in action overseas during the Second World War. Sr. Margaret was a woman of faith, courage and great determination. Her favourite prayer even as a child was Heart of Jesus, grant that I may always love you. Her great love of God was expressed through her music especially her singing. She had a beautiful singing voice, true pitch and loved harmonizing. Even in declining health she could be heard singing or playing the old pump-organ which had been brought to the Health Centre for her use. Sr. Margaret entered the Benedictine community in Arborg, Manitoba on January 6, 1940. She made her monastic profession on August 28, 1941. She taught elementary school in Winnipeg for a short period of time but her teaching career was cut short due to being diagnosed with tuberculosis. She then spent two years in the Sanatorium. While confined to bed she began studying for her future ministry as a lab and x-ray technician. After graduating from St. Boniface Hospital she ministered in Sacred Heart Hospital, Russell, Johnson Memorial Hospital, Gimli and lastly at Winnipegosis. She retired in 1988 and then enjoyed a 12 year career of chauffeuring Sisters to medical appointments. Sr. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret (Haas) Zentner; and her brothers, Willie and Danny. She is survived by brothers, Ron (Gladys) and Ted (Ginny); and sisters, Eleanore (Valerian) Allaire, Louise, Florence (Fred) Monckton, Julie (Dennis) Johnson and Sr. Germaine Zentner, R.N.D.M., numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, and the members of her Religious Community. A vigil service will be held on Monday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Benedict's Monastery presided by the Prioress, Sr. Irene Burzynski, O.S.B. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Benedict's Monastery presided by Msgr. Louis McCloskey. Interment will follow in the Monastery Cemetery. The Benedictine Sisters would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Bronislaw Gorski and the staff of St. Benedict's Health Centre for their care of Sr. Margaret. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Sr. Margaret's memory to St. Benedict's Foundation, 225 Masters Ave., Winnipeg, MB R4A 2A1. May she rest in peace. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
