Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHEODORE (TED) BAUER 1924 - 2006 On April 2, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Ted passed away at the age of 81. He is survived by his beloved wife Clara of 59 years; three sons and one daughter Siegfried, Helmut (Evelyn), Dieter (Cathy), Irene Young; five grandchildren, Carrie, Serena, Ian, Kristy and Jessica. He also leaves to mourn brothers, Gustav (Victoria), Herbert; and sisters, Hilda (Willy) and Marie. Ted was predeceased by brother Gotlieb, from Germany. Ted was born in 1924, in Cogelea, Romania. At the age of 15, Ted became the main provider for, his mother (Matilda) and younger siblings, when his father Henry, died in an industrial accident. At 18 years of age, Ted was conscripted into the Second World War, where he served a short time on the Russian front as, in his words cannon fodder . During this period, he was wounded and subsequently captured. His ability to speak to his captors and resourcefulness helped him to survive the Russian prison camp. When the war ended, Ted was fortunate, to be sent back to Romania. He soon found Clara and they were married, on October 20, 1946. Together they traveled to East Germany from Romania, for a better life. After a brief period, they escaped, to West Germany and settled in Stetten, Germany, where they started their family. Ted always had hopes and dreams of freedom and prosperity, in Canada. In 1954, he realized his long held dream. With his wife Clara, three sons, mother, siblings and close friends, they immigrated by ship, to Canada. Not too long after arriving in Winnipeg, MB, their daughter Irene was born. Ted worked hard as a, carpenter, painter, machine welder, farmer and businessman. He did what he had to, the best way he could, to provide for his family. Ted was a proud and compassionate man, and always willing to help those less fortunate than himself. He will be missed. The family would like to thank the Seven Oaks Staff and the home care workers during our difficult time. Funeral services will be, on Monday, April 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The memorial service and reception will be at Cropo Funeral Chapel.
