GILBERT LEE HOBBS 1926 - 2006 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Gib on April 5, 2006 at the St. Anthony's Hospital in The Pas, at the age of 80 years. Gib leaves to mourn his loving wife Audrey of 54 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Fred (Alexandra), Gary (Eileen), and Greg; grandchildren, Cory, Chrissy, Sherri-Lynn and T.J.; and great-grandchildren, Braeden and Paige. Gib is also survived by his five brothers, Garnet (Marie), Sterling (Leone), Jack (Diane), Stewart (Diane) and Arly (Delores) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Vera and Fred Hobbs, nephew Clayton and niece Korena of Deloraine, MB. Gib was born in Deloraine, MB on February 3, 1926, the second eldest of six boys. At the age of 18, Gib enlisted in the army to serve his country. He was a proud Canadian. As a young man he spent his time farming in the summers in the Deloraine area and logging in the winter. A decision to begin winter freighting to Grand Rapids in 1950 would prove to be life altering. It was here that Gib met the love of his life and chose Grand Rapids for his new home. Marriage, raising a family and private enterprise filled his life with great joy and success. More than anything Gib enjoyed a good days work as well as entertaining his friends and acquaintances with stories of his life and experiences. He will be fondly thought of for his quick wit, honesty and laughter. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. There will always be a heartache And often a silent tear, But always special memories Of days when you were here. Remembering you is easy We do it everyday, But missing you is the heartache That will never go away. In lieu of flowers family and friends may make a donation in Gib's memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity for their choice. Cremation has taken place and in following Gib's wishes there will be no formal service.

  • The thought of "Old Gib" brings a smile to all of us who have had the great opportunity to hear many of Gib's stories and just to have known a legend like him. Grand Rapids won't be the same with out him. We are thinking of you all. The Cinq-Mars kids. - Posted by: Marie Hiebert (Cinq-Mars) (Friend) on: Apr 10, 2006
