BERTHA SILVERMAN SINGER Bertha Silverman Singer, born in Regina, SK in 1921, passed away at Richmond Hospital on Friday, April 7, 2006 after complications following surgery. She is survived by daughters, Roslyn Brandt of Scarsdale, NY and Anne Prusakowski of Calgary, AB and son Ron Singer of Richmond, BC. In 1941, she married David Singer, who predeceased her in 1965. Together they managed to raise their two daughters while working side by side, 18 hour days, in the family grocery store in Winnipeg. Years later, in 1960 son Ron joined the family. He was a special gift, a blessing to Bertha, for when David died at age 52, when Ron was five, the young boy became the man of the family. Bertha and Ron were much more then mother and son, they shared a special bond as best friends and have lived together in mutual support and comfort all these years. Bertha always had the sunniest of dispositions, a supremely positive outlook on life. If told the sky was falling, she looked for the rainbow. Although her life was far from easy, and she was often in great and chronic pain from diabetes, she seldom complained; she simply didn't want to inconvenience anyone with her personal trials. No one was kinder, more gentle, more loving, or more concerned with those around her. She was one of those special angels who brighten the life of all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Graveside service and interment will take place on Monday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Beth Tikvah Cemetary in White Rock. Donations in Bertha's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
